About Rob’s Build
The first phone call from Rob was to let us know he had ordered a new 79 series dual cab and had organised for it to be delivered to us straight off the boat from Japan, he presented a list of accessories that he wanted fitted and asked us to quote it up. When looking through his requested modifications we quickly realised it was too close to our signature package to not offer the opportunity, we let Rob in on the secret and he was quick to accept the offer of being our first Jacksons 4×4 signature series owner. We finalised the smaller details, got everything organised and proceeded with the build. It is safe to say the end result speaks for its self.
First up for this signature series build was our premium GVM package available for the 79 series, the Jmacx 4495 super chassis. This system uses a replacement rear chassis clip incorporating a 300mm chassis extension, rear coil conversion, upgraded diff housing, brake upgrades, suspension upgrade, driveline upgrades, exhaust system, inbuilt towbar, rear winch cradle, long range fuel tank, speedo correction & much more. It is a full vehicle conversion providing a new GVM of 4495kg GVM, an increased towing capacity to 4000kg and a GCM of 7995kg which makes it a fantastic option for heavily loaded touring or work vehicles. Rob opted for 3 inches of lift and 35 inch tyres which is federally approved and completely legal with this package, the choice of wheel was 312 HD Method Race Wheels wrapped in Mickey Thompson ATZ P3 tyres.
This biggest attraction to the Signature build is our Signature series tray and canopy setup. The tray is a full welded aluminium tray featuring 3.5” headboard, heavy duty flooring, flush mounted tie down points, Maxilamp rear tail lights, stainless high flow fuel filler system, 4 x under tray tool boxes, rear pull out draw, under tray water tank, side & rear drop down gates and a headboard mounted spare wheel carrier. In one of the rear under tray tool boxes an ARB twin onboard compressor has been mounted and plumbed up to the 4L air tank with remote outlet. The Signature series canopy sits nicely on the tray, relocates the spare tyre/s to the rear of the canopy and includes internal storage, 50L water tank, Revolution lithium batteries, Redarc 12 volt electrical system, door lighting, fridge & slide, pantry, stainless table and storage shelves. To tie the tray and canopy package in nicely with the vehicle it has been colour coded in Sandy Taupe.
Two of the biggest design considerations for the Signature series trays and canopies were total weight and weight distribution. We wanted to build something extremely light without compromising on strength or useability. These Landcruisers handle so much better if the weight is kept down and the distribution is well thought out, nothing else on the market ticked all of the boxes we wanted ticked for our Signature builds so we came up with our own design and knocked it out the park.
Rob wanted to keep the Sandy Taupe theme going with his bar work, we fitted the ARB large tube bar work which was all colour coded and the bar is now home to a Warn winch, Ultra vision lights, ARB bash plate and a rated recovery point. We removed the factory flares and had them colour coded to match the body work and refitted with new clips and rubbers for a factory finish. For added protection Rob chose the Provent catch can, Direction Plus pre filter with water alarm and a 4 way ARB breathers for the front diff, rear diff, gearbox and transfer case. Other external bolt on accessories included the shortened Clearview towing mirrors, a Rhino Pioneer rack and the Safari Armax snorkel.
Our interior package started with a full strip of all trims, carpet, seats and panels. Dynamat sound deadening was installed throughout followed by a layer of Dynaliner acoustic foam and then a refit of everything interior related. This sound deadening and acoustic foam combination reduces a lot of cabin noise resulting in a much nicer driving experience. A pair of Cruiser Consoles went in for some added storage and comfort, the roof console houses the GME UHF and a full length centre console provides a comfy arm rest. Next up was the sound system, Rob chose the 9 inch Alpine head unit with inbuilt Hema maps paired up with a reverse camera and a set of speakers mounted in Cruiser Consoles speaker pods. We also tinted the windows and threw in a set of Black Duck 4 Elements seat covers to keep it tidy.
Thanks to Rob for being involved with this project and congratulations on owning the first of many Signature series builds to come. The vehicle certainly turns heads, it looks the part, it drives amazing and is also extremely practical for the intended purpose. We can’t wait to see this one out and about on the tracks!
