  • JMACX 4495 SUPER CHASSIS FULL BUILD

Super Chassis

The foundation of the Jmacx 4495 Super Chassis package is the replacement rear chassis clip. The process starts by stripping the rear end of the vehicle, removing the rear section of the factory chassis and welding the Jmacx super chassis into position.

To handle the additional weight from the increased GVM, the Jmacx chassis is bigger and stronger than the original design.

The replacement chassis clip also incorporates a 300mm chassis extension, inbuilt towbar and rear winch cradle.

Coil Conversion

From factory the 70 Series Landcruiser is fitted with leaf springs in the rear. Within the Jmacx Super Chassis package is a coil conversion for the rear end, converting the factory leaf spring suspension to coil springs.

Jmacx use a five-link suspension system similar to what can be found in wagon models of Landcruiser such as the 80, 100 and 200 series.

Coil springs are known for offering superior ride comfort, improved driveability and enhanced offroad performance when compared to leaf springs.

300mm CHASSIS EXTENSION

Incorporated into the Jmacx Super Chassis is a chassis extension which lengthens the wheelbase of the vehicle by 300mm. To accommodate for the additional chassis length, we also fit a longer tailshaft, replacement handbrake cable, new brake lines and extended fuel lines.

By extending the chassis and lengthening the wheel base the vehicle will handle better whilst also offering nicer ride comfort.

Another small bonus from the increased chassis length is additional tray or canopy space.

DIFF HOUSING

The Jmacx super chassis package includes a replacement rear diff housing. The diff housing is upgraded to a much stronger housing which is fully welded and Australian made by Jmacx.

The housing provides a mounting location for the new rear coil springs and all associated suspension components for the coil conversion.

With the installation of a Jmacx diff housing the axle capacity is increased and the rear wheel track is also widened to match the factory front wheel track.

RADIUS ARMS

Front radius arms are provided with the Jmacx Super Chassis to handle additional weight and improve the vehicles handling.

Jmacx radius arms are 60% stronger than factory arms without adding any additional weight to the vehicle. Upgrading the radius arms increases castor angle to ensure the vehicle drives nicely after the suspension height is raised (which results in a loss of castor angle).

Jmacx radius arms utilise OEM bushes to maintain bush life and full range of bush movement.

SUSPENSION

The suspension receives a complete overhaul with the Jmacx Super Chassis package to improve ride comfort, enhance handling, increase ride height and provide additional carrying capacity to suit the higher GVM.

The new rear coil set up is provided including springs, shock absorbers, control arms, sway bar and much more, the front suspension is also replaced.

Jmacx offer many different suspension options and components which allows for a tailored package to suit each application.

DRIVELINE UPGRADES

Due to the increase in GVM the driveline does require some attention. Two options are available depending on the application, customer preference and budget.

The standard option is to fit a heavy duty clutch which provides an increase in clamping force over the factory clutch whilst still offering a nice pedal feel, this option results in a 4000kg towing capacity and 7995kg GCM.

Another option is an automatic transmission conversion which has a 4500kg towing capacity and 8995kg GCM.

BRAKE UPGRADES

When increasing a vehicles GVM and towing large loads it is important to make sure the vehicle can brake safely.

To address the poor performance of the factory braking system in the 70 series Landcruiser, the Jmacx Super Chassis includes a Marks 4wd hydro booster and a set of braided brake lines as part of the package. The combination of these two upgrades results in a huge improvement to the vehicles braking ability to ensure it stops even when loaded to the increased GVM capacity.

EXHAUST

Many Landcruiser owners choose to upgrade their exhaust for increased performance and a nice exhaust note.

With the complete change of geometry in the rear suspension the factory exhaust no longer fits. To take care of the fitment issue and to also offer the other benefits listed Jmacx include a Torqit 3.5 inch stainless steel exhaust system specifically designed to work with the Super Chassis and coil converted suspension. This may be DPF back or turbo back depending on application.

FUEL TANK

Generally the Jmacx Super Chassis package is installed on work vehicles or offroad tourers which both require a decent fuel capacity. The factory Landcruiser fuel tank capacity is 130L which leaves room for improvement and results in many Landcruiser owners opting to fit a bigger tank.

When Jmacx developed the super chassis they designed it to work with the Brown Davis 185L fuel tank, the mounts are welded in place as part of the chassis and the tank comes standard in the kit.

WHEELS & TYRES

When the axle ratings are increased for a higher GVM capacity, the wheels and tyres also need to be upgraded to a higher load rating. This is for safety reasons to ensure the wheels and tyres are capable of handling the additional weight without failure when the vehicle is loaded to GVM.

Jmacx also engineer the Super Chassis package to be legal with wider offset rims and larger tyres. The legal tyre size can either be 33 inches or 35 inches in diameter depending on suspension lift height.
