George’s 200 With 4200kg GVM

Build Completed: June 2020

This 200 series was completed for George, a great repeat customer of ours who has previously had a Hilux and a 79 series fitted out here. George wanted a big GVM upgrade and a few quality accessories to be fitted prior to taking delivery of his new 200 series.

The main purpose was to build a nice car that is also physically capable of towing heavy loads and staying legal. To include some style in the build we went with colour coded bar work all round to match the factory silver pearl paint and a set of machined finish wheels to set it off nicely.

About George’s Build

George knew what to expect and understood how the process works due to having a couple vehicles fitted out by us before so this one was a straight forward process, George provided his list of requirements and we put together a package. We worked with George to finetune a few options and settled on a list of upgrades, the parts were ordered and we booked it in! Once the vehicle arrived from the dealer we proceeded with the install and worked with George to get things just the way he likes it, the vehicle was sent back to the dealer and handed over for delivery.

The first major part of the build was the GVM upgrade, George went for the 4200kg GVM from Australian Expedition Vehicles which maintains a full 3500kg towing capacity when loaded to GVM. Maintaining the full towing capacity of the vehicle when loaded to GVM is essential for towing a heavy load to ensure the GCM of the vehicle is not exceeded. This GVM kit was optioned with the King remote res 2.5 adjustable shocks, these offer fantastic handling and control while maintaining respectable ride comfort than can be fine-tuned to the driving conditions via the external 30 stage adjustment. Due to the increase in GVM and axle load capacities, the wheels need to be load rated higher than standard. George chose the Method Race Wheels 305 in the HD version which has a 1654kg load rating, exceeding what is required for this GVM upgrade.

On the front end we installed an ARB Sahara bar and a pair of Ultra Vision 180 Maxx driving lights. A pair of ARB Summit side steps were fitted and then on the rear we went with the Kaymar rear bar. All of the bar work was colour coded silver pearl to match the factory paint work which looks great.

George wasn’t planning to use this vehicle for much touring so there wasn’t a lot required from an electrical or camping point of view, most things were based around towing and vehicle protection. Next up was the Safari Amrax package, including the snorkel and the performance ECU. We installed a catch can and fuel filter for added protection and fitted up a Torqit stainless exhaust system. For towing George required the heavy duty towbar and an electric brake controller from Redarc.

Although it was a very simple fit out we still enjoyed putting this one together, thanks to George for the repeat business and we hope this vehicle is greatly enjoyed!
