SUSPENSION

70 Series Suspension and GVM Upgrades

The logical starting point of a vehicle fit out is the suspension and with the 70 Series there is plenty of different options to be taken into consideration. Getting your 70 Series Landcruiser’s suspension setup right is key for extracting the best on and offroad performance and driveability from vehicle. Knowing what you’ll be using the vehicle for along with what other modifications you plan on doing helps with selecting the right suspension package for your needs.

Why upgrade your suspension?

Over the years we’ve found that our 76 Series, 78 Series and 79 Series customers have many different reasons for upgrading their suspension. Some are looking for performance, some are looking for reliability, some are doing it for aesthetics however the majority of our customers are upgrading their suspension so that they can comfortably and safely carry more weight than the factory suspension is designed for.

Load Carrying

The number one reason for replacing the 70 Series factory suspension with aftermarket suspension is to help carry more weight in the vehicle. The factory suspension is designed to suit the factory vehicle so when aftermarket modifications are added to the vehicle, they also add weight and the factory suspension is no longer suited to carrying the additional load.

Longevity

For those going offroad in their 70 Series they are most likely going to encounter rough and unforgiving road conditions. Over time the factory suspension can wear out leading to shock fade or shock failures. This is why many people choose to replace the factory suspension with high quality aftermarket suspension specifically designed for the conditions.

Lift

All of our aftermarket suspension modifications come with a lift as standard. Lifting the 70 Series Landcruiser has a number of benefits, one of them being increasing the vehicle’s ground clearance and departure / ramp over angles. Lifting the vehicle also allows for the fitment of larger tyres whilst also improving the vehicles overall aesthetics / looks.

70 Series GVM Upgrade Options

A hot topic, ensuring your vehicle is within its legal Gross Vehicle Mass is crucial. By carrying more weight and fitting modifications the vehicles factory GVM can easily be exceeded and a GVM upgrade is required. To help with working out if you will need a GVM Upgrade we have built a GVM calculator where you can test your current setup or potential setups with different GVM’s.

From The Sales Manager

“Suspension and GVM’s upgrades are a complex modification with many different factors to be taken into consideration. The GVM upgrade space is constantly evolving and changing with new regulations and products being added. This is why for the most accurate and up to date information we strongly recommend getting in touch with our sales team. They will be able to walk you through the different options and discuss your individual requirements whilst answering any questions you may have.”

Winches

Installing a winch is one of those modifications which is better to have and not need rather than needing and not having. If you are planning to install a front bar it is also a good time to consider if you are going to need a winch as these usually need to be fitted at the same time.
